WILD ROVER

I've been a wild rover for many's the year
I've spent all me money on whiskey and beer
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover no more

REFRAIN
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more

I went into an ale-house I used to frequent
I told the landlady me money was spent
I asked her for credit, she answered me, "Nay
Such a custom as yours I can have any day"

REFRAIN
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more

I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight
She says, "I have whiskeys and wines of the best"
And the words that she told me were only in jest

REFRAIN
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more

I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son
And when they've caressed me as oft' times before
Then I never will play the wild rover no more

REFRAIN
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more

And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more

Sally MacLenane

Well, Jimmy played harmonica in the pub where I was born He played it from the night time to the peaceful early morn' He soothed the souls of psychos and the men who had the horn And they all looked very happy in the morning But Jimmy didn't like his place in this world of ours Where the elephant man broke strong men's necks when he'd had too many Powers So sad to see the grieving of the people that he's leaving And he took the road for God knows in the morning We walked him to the station in the rain We kissed him as we put him on the train And we sang him a song of times long gone Though we knew that we'd be seeing him again (Far away!) I'm sad to say I must be on my way So buy me beer or whiskey, 'cause I'm going far away (Far away!) I'd like to think of me returning when I can To the greatest little boozer and to Sally MacLennane The years passed by, the times had changed, I grew to be a man I learned to love the virtues of sweet Sally MacLe...

COUNTRY ROADS

Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze REFRAIN Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads All my memories gather 'round her Miner's lady, stranger to blue water Dark and dusty, painted on the sky Misty taste of moonshine, teardrops in my eye REFRAIN Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads   I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me The radio reminds me of my home far away And driving down the road, I get a feeling That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday REFRAIN Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads
